It's ironic: Japan had a warrior culture in the form of the Samurai/Bushido tradition, yet during the Tokugawa Shogunate ( 1603- 1868), no major battle was fought by the Samurai. Over 250 years went by, and their traditions ossified. Peace killed the spirit of these erstwhile noble warriors- many eventually became bandits.
