I'm still counting...

The Mayan Long Count Calender is thought by some to indicate that the world will end in 2012 AD
(the Mayans used a base 20, 260 day year system, combining linear and cyclic trajectories. Mayans also independently invented zero)

This is an erroneous view- stelae have been found showing Mayan dates beyond 2012. Lord Pacal of Palenque anticipated humanity celebrating his reign in the year 4773 AD...the one or two glyphs used to conjure a doomsday scenario in 2012 have been misinterpreted...In Mayan eschatology, the year 2012 merely represents the occurrence of a big event, a transition to a new cycle.
( The cycle we are in right now began in 3114 BC.... nothing major occurred during that switch. To the ancient Maya, 2012 did not represent the end of the world )

Yet...the magnetic field that protects the Earth from harmful cosmic radiation is generated by electric currents in the Earths metallic liquid core ....We know that the Earths magnetic field has reversed itself about 50 times in the last billion years, switching about every 200,000 years- the last time this happened was about 700,000 years ago, so we are long overdue for a flip. Once this occurs, compasses will point south..... The field has been weakening since the time of Christ...and has lost about half of its strength since 1750....it will go down to zero by about 2,500 AD, unless there is a faster decline- a June 30, 2008 article in the National Geographic News reveals that scientists have discovered that the Earths liquid core is currently experiencing very unusual rapid movements, thus suddenly and seriously weakening the field over large areas, such as the south Atlantic, or the Australian zone....

During the future magnetic reversal , the Earth will be exposed to harmful radiation...for several centuries. Genetic mutations will become rampant, as radio communications cease. We now know that this event can happen almost all at once...

...Which brings us back to the Mayans...
