Apathy is the easy answer...loss of power is the correct answer...power lost due to lack of pressure over Congress...Nixon progressive due to fear of public backlash...Obama votes for illegal surveillance bill...minimal activism...air and water bad...corporate reach into 3 years olds minds-advertising...Military-Industrial complex...Taft-Harley 1947....1688...loss of power in the courtroom...1952 Truman wants solar power...78% of Palestine seized by Israel...Naturalism in literature Emile Zola..class struggle...Ibsen plays...domestic strife...Joseph Conrad...trouble with imperialism...outsiders....few in university even as late as 1920...universities bastions of conservative tradition.(surprise)..gain entry ...university does not want radical creativity....they are doorways to the established system...Zola, Ibsen, Conrad....denied entry to university....our civilization founded upon two traditions....Athens and Jerusalem....both came together in St. Aquinas...separation occurred around 1650....
