During the six day war in 1967, Israel deliberately attacked an American Naval ship, killing 35 analysts. Israel claimed it was an accident, but they really intended to wipe out certain records and information- the Americans had just learned about Israeli atrocities against captured Egyptian soldiers in the Sinai, and we knew the war was almost over, but Israel wanted to prolong it long enough to capture the Golan Heights from Syria.
