Portends....

The Astrology currently used in the West was codified in Babylon a few centuries before Christ-and was based upon an Earth centered universe. The discoveries of Copernicus in the mid 16th century overthrew the Ptolemiac star system, making Astrology obsolete. ( Also- the charts made today are based upon an entirely different sky- the one of 300 BC).

The main idea: since events in the universe are assumed to be pre-determined by God, an observance of an event in one part of the universe might be able to inform us of another, more local, event. A scripture from Genesis gave weight to this concept- that God put lights in the sky not just to record the seasons (time), but also to give Man signs (signals).

Apologists claim that Astrology still has merit, even though we now know that the Earth is not the center of the universe- because, in a profound psychological sense, it still is.

I think that if the charts were updated, and reflected modern skies and knowledge, Astrology might contain SOME value.
