American Indians could not comprehend the white mans greed. Indians were taught to share everything, they were not selfish; and some tribes went so far as to make the accumulation of wealth a source of shame, to be remedied by a ceremony where the individual in question divested himself of most of his belongings (the Potlatch)



Contrast with : The Masai tribe in east Africa- status revolved around how much cattle you had.
